Teamsters for Tomorrow to gather for leadership summit
The Teamsters for Tomorrow (members under 35 years old) are planning the first-ever Teamsters Local 117 Leadership Summit to be held on Saturday, November 7, 2009 from 11 A.M. to 3 P.M. at the Union hall in Tukwila.
The mission of the Teamsters for Tomorrow is to empower a diverse generation of young Teamster leaders through education, communication, and organizing.
Says Local 117 member, Rokeda Rogers of the Prosecuting Attorney's Office, who has been involved in planning the Summit, "It was a huge learning experience for me, just going to that first meeting. There are so many people from all walks of life and so many industries who are part of this one Union. Anyone who has decided to join us has become a leader in their own right."
Topics for the November Summit include getting to know your union; financial planning; balancing work, friends and family life; and bridging the generation gap.
Featured speakers scheduled to speak at the event are financial planning expert, Lesley Scorgie, author of Rich by 30, who will talk about how members can get their finances in order and grow their net worth. Gary Hattal of the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service (FMCS) will lead members in a workshop on bridging the generation gap.
