The Teamsters for Tomorrow (TFT), a group of young Union leaders from Local 117's shops, made their 2010 debut on April 3rd. The group has been busy planning a “Year of Activism” since last year's historic Leadership Summit held at the Teamsters Hall.

“TFT are young Teamsters who want to step up, and take a bigger role in the future of our Union,” Cara Brown, a Shop Steward from Avis said. “This year we want to get everyone involved.” Last Saturday was the first event on the group's calendar: a Bowl-A-Thon fundraiser to benefit the Local 117 Alfieri Scholarship, a Local 117 program that provides education scholarships for children of Local 117 members.

“We wanted to plan something that our members could come to, bring their families, and help raise money for a good cause,” explained Local 117 Business Representative Marcus Williams.

After weeks of phone banking and posting flyers, TFT successfully brought together over 200 members and their families who were ready to lace up to honor the memory of Jeff Alfieri, to better the future of our members' children, and of course to have a great time! “It was awesome to see how many different shops were represented!”

Local 117 Business Representative Matt House exclaimed. “Everyone was interacting and excited to be supporting the cause.”

Jeff 's parent's, Raph and Sue Alfieri, made an appearance and were blown away by the excitement of the group. “Jeff would have loved this!” said a proud Sue Alfieri.

The night proved once more that Local 117's members have some of the biggest hearts the Teamsters have ever seen, and because of their generosity, TFT was able to raise $2360 for the scholarship. After countless strikes, spares, and unfortunately, gutterballs, members turned in their shoes, gathered their kids and left the bowling alley, but everyone still had one question on their mind: What's next for the Teamsters for Tomorrow?
